“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
John 8:12 NIV
The Creation of Light
From the very beginning of creation, light came first.
Genesis 1:3 says:
“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
Before God created animals, before He created man, He created light.
Think about that.
We were never designed to live in darkness. We were created to live in the light. Because where there is light, there is life.
Genesis 1:4 says:
“God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.”
There’s a reason God separated the two.
Have you ever felt depressed and wanted to sit alone in a dark room with the curtains closed? Then someone opens the curtains, sunlight fills the room, and suddenly your mood begins to lift.
Or maybe you’ve walked through a dark room and immediately felt fear rise up inside you—so you rush to turn on a light. The moment the light comes on, fear begins to fade because now you can see clearly.
That’s what darkness does; it attracts negative energy. Darkness breeds fear, confusion, hopelessness, and isolation. But light brings clarity, peace, comfort, and life.
Jesus is the Light
Jesus says in John 10:10:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Where there is light, there is life. Where there is life, there is light.
Jesus is the Light.
How do we know? Because He said it Himself.
John 8:12 says:
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12 Divided Into Parts
Let’s break John 8:12 down
"Jesus says I am the light of the world..."
When Jesus was born, darkness immediately tried to destroy Him.
Matthew 2:13 says:
“Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt… for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
Darkness was intimidated by the Light.
The enemy knew that once people encountered the true Light, they would be set free from deception, bondage, and lies.
Light exposes darkness.
And that’s why the enemy fights so hard to keep people spiritually blind.
“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness...”
When you follow Christ, his light will pierce through darkness .
It remind me of that song that goes “ I can see clearly now the rain is gone, I can see all the obstacles in my way… it’s gonna be a bright sunny day”.
When you give your life to Christ and begin to follow him , you will begin to see clearer. You will begin to see all the obstacles that were preventing you from moving forward. You will begin to experience vision instead of blindness, clarity instead of confusion, hope instead of despair and peace instead of chaos.
“But will have the light of life”
The good news once you begin walking with Christ, darkness cannot overcome you.
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:4-5 NIV
In other words, Light always wins & you will begin to experience the fullness of light.
If you're feeling lost, confused, or stuck in the dark, connect to the power source, Jesus.
Start by saying His name: Jesus. Then, take a step asking Him to light up the darkness.
You might already be saved and follow Christ but need clarity in a situation like your job, marriage, finances, thought life, your health or whatever it may be.
Just say God, light up the darkness concerning my marriage or light up the darkness concerning my finances. Light everything in my life that is dark!! Expose it and Expel it.
And as you continue to follow Him, He will show you the way.
Take a moment to thank God for shining His light in your life. Because of Jesus, you can leave the darkness behind and experience the light that leads to life.
